  • Happy Labour Day everyone!

    Friday, October 23, 2015

Labour Day (Monday 26th October) commemorates the struggle for an eight-hour working day. New Zealand workers were among the first in the world to claim this right when, in 1840, the carpenter Samuel Parnell won an eight-hour day. Other employers tried to impose longer hours, but Parnell enlisted the support of other workers and informed those arriving on incoming ships of the local custom. In October 1840 a meeting of Wellington workers apparently resolved to work eight hours a day, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • BNZ Update

BNZ union members are currently voting on the proposed offer following collective agreement negotiations between the union and BNZ. The recommended offer includes a 3% salary increase this year and a 3% salary increase next year, demographics to be taken into consideration when setting targets, 15 minute tea break, a workplace bullying clause and a workplace stress clause in our agreement among other wins.  We also stopped a number of proposed claw backs from the Collective Agreement.

If you have any feedback on this please contact us as we will be raising it with management.
